With less than a month to go until Mark and Nina begin their 250-mile Kindness Amble, it’s time to talk about the second vital cause driving our journey: the Canal & River Trust.

The Trust is responsible for looking after 2,000 miles of historic canals and rivers across England and Wales. These aren’t just historic industrial relics; they are our “blue spaces”, crucial green corridors, wildlife habitats, and community areas right on our doorsteps. But keeping a 200-year-old network running requires constant care and massive resources.

A stark reminder of this happened late last December, when a catastrophic 50-metre breach tore through the Llangollen Canal near Whitchurch. The embankment gave way, completely draining the canal section, stranding boaters, and causing massive structural damage.
