At Surplex UK, our mission has always been rooted in the circular economy, extending the life of IT assets to protect the environment. But sustainability isn’t just about hardware; it’s about the ecosystems and communities we live in.
That’s why we are incredibly proud to champion a remarkable journey: Mark’s Kindness Amble. Our very own Non-Executive Chairman Mark Willis is embarking on a gruelling 250-mile trek to raise vital funds for three causes close to our hearts: our historic canals, and the welfare of cats and canines. Mark will be joined by his canine companion, Nina, who will be sitting comfortably in the dog stroller! They will sourcing food and shelter as they go.
The Mission: 250 Miles of Purpose
Covering 250 miles on foot is no small feat. It requires the same precision, endurance, and dedication we apply to secure IT asset disposition (ITAD). Mark’s journey is a physical manifestation of the “Kindness Economy”, the idea that businesses and individuals must give back more than they take.
Why These Causes Matter
-
Canal and River Trust: The UK’s canal networks are the “green veins” of our urban landscapes. In late December, a catastrophic 50-metre breach on the Llangollen Canal near Whitchurch left boats stranded and the network devastated. Repairing this “Whitchurch Breach” is a multi-million-pound engineering feat. Much like the IT recycling industry prevents e-waste from polluting our soil, maintaining our waterways ensures biodiversity and provides a sustainable escape for local communities.
-
Battersea Dogs & Cats Home: Animal welfare is a cornerstone of a compassionate society. The funds raised will go directly toward Battersea who provides medical care and rehoming for our four-legged friends.
Sustainability Beyond IT Recycling
As experts in IT recycling and data destruction, we often talk about “Zero Landfill” policies. Mark’s Kindness Amble takes that philosophy into the wild. By supporting the maintenance of canals and the protection of animals, we are supporting a holistic approach to environmental and social governance (ESG).
“In the ITAD industry, we focus on the lifecycle of technology. With this walk, Mark is focusing on the lifecycle of our natural world and the creatures within it.”
